Topic at Tonight’s Local Government Forum

by Ryan Shell on June 24, 2009

In just over an hour I’ll be attending a local government forum that is being put on by Action Greensboro. To my understanding the 250 seats made available are all taken and I think it’s going to be an educational event. One of the issues that will be covered is:

  • Increasing the cooperation between the cities and county

This topic is something I think elected officials on both sides of the Council / Commissioner fence should pay attention too. For example, one item that immediately came to mind is the fact that the respective bodies have not worked together to put in writing how much the County will be giving the City for the library budget on an annual basis.

I look forward to sharing some of what is talked about with you tomorrow.

So sorry that I was unable to attend. But, I have attended other meetings. I hope this one gets better action that the others.
It seems to me that most people go to those meetings to ask for something, rather than to share their ideas of how to improve the “business-as-usual” way the government operates.
Maybe this one will be different: LOL :)

Diane,

It was pretty interesting to hear the speakers discuss local government. Hopefully the video from the event will be available online tomorrow; if so I’ll make sure I share it with you.

I think the first step for Greensboro is for folks (elected officials) to accept that we might not be doing things the best way possible. I do hope that those in attendance weren’t just there to “be seen.”

Ryan
