By now I’m sure you’ve heard that long time council member, Mayor Yvonne Johnson, has been ousted by newcomer Bill Knight. Many around Greensboro are shocked, but there’s also a large contingent of people that are happy with Knight’s success.
Partisan politics has plagued Greensboro as of late, and the party makeup of the new council was highlighted in today’s Greensboro News & Record. This city is already divided enough; the last thing we need to do is add to that divide by focussing on party politics.
The map below represents voting precincts in Greensboro – the blue color (on the left) represents Bill Knight and the green (on the right) represents Yvonne Johnson. As you can see, the city was clearly divided on the mayoral election.
It is my hope that the new council will proactively work towards uniting Greensboro and that each member will work towards bringing their campaign promises to fruition. I also hope that Bill Knight will work towards reaching out to the part of this city that clearly did not vote for him. There’s lots of opportunity…
