District 2 South Elm Business Owners Unrepresented

Earlier this morning I saw a link to this YES! Weekly story on Twitter and checked it out. The first paragraph reads as follows,

“South Elm Street business owners met with District 3 Councilman Zack Matheny and members of Greensboro city staff on May 18 to discuss parking challenges. One of the issues of discussion was homelessness. Participants listed suggestions for dealing with various challenges on sticky notes.”

I should note that a portion of South Elm Street falls in District 2 (train track back to Lee St). Businesses include the likes of Mellow Mushroom, Area, Studio B, The Broach and many others. As I have seen time and time again, these business owners were not represented by their council representative. Why?

Businesses such as the Mellow Mushroom are drawing lots of business to this portion of South Elm Street – where parking spaces are far less frequent than they are for the businesses to the north. To the South Elm business owners – I will make sure your voice is heard when I am elected!

On a different note, make sure you read the entire article to see what was mentioned about the homeless. Some of the comments were less than desirable in my opinion.

Apparently (from the minutes),the meeting was specific to parking issues in the 300 block of South Elm. Minutes are posted on my blog, along with my thoughts on homeless tasering:

Why wait for the election? Can’t you hold a meeting for merchants on your end on Elm now? Let them know you’re listening. And ready to act!
