Phillips Avenue Trash Can Update

by Ryan Shell on June 11, 2009

This is an update to a previous post titled, Phillips Avenue Trash Cleanup Experience. In that post I stated the following,

“Phillips Avenue is about 1.7 miles long. Guess how many trash cans there are along the sidewalk for folks to dispose of trash? Zero. How can we expect folks to throw their trash away if there is no where to do so? I’ll be working with the Field Operations Department later today to get some cans put out.”

The concrete trash cans the City uses aren’t exactly readily available, but the folks in the Field Operations Department managed to round up four for Phillips Avenue. Per a voicemail I received this morning I was told that the cans are having some new signage put on them and that they should be ready for placement. The way this has worked in the past is that I’ll meet someone from Field Operations at the road in question and we will determine the best places to put the cans. I imagine that will take place within the next week.

As I’ve said before, this is only a small step towards cleaning up Phillips Avenue – but it is a step none the less.
