Issues

These are just some of the issues that I’m concerned with. If you have something that you want to make sure is on my radar please let me know. I would urge you to click over to the campaign blog because that space allows me to discuss other issues and to talk about things in further detail.

Economic Development – Establishing Greensboro as a destination for businesses, entertainment events and the like will be a high priority. Being centrally located, having easy access to air transportation as well as major thoroughfares are just a few things that make Greensboro a great place for businesses to call home. We should constantly be highlighting success stories and taking action to attract businesses, yet at the same time not compromising the integrity of the city and giving up unnecessary incentives.

Crime and Gang Violence – These issues have been somewhat overshadowed by the negative effects of the economy, but keeping our citizens safe is always a top priority. I would also like to see a better partnership between the GPD and the university police departments to ensure the safety of students on and around our college campuses.

Honesty, integrity and accountability in city government – Operating efficiently helps ensure that tax payer money is being used properly and that the City of Greensboro is providing the best services possible to all residents. In addition, I am a big believer in transparency, and I don’t just say that as a talking point.

Equal representation on Boards & Commissions – While serving on the Greensboro Board of Adjustments I’ve realized that the balance of our various Boards and Commissions is off kilter and that needs to be addressed. For example, the Board of Adjustments should not have two members of the same company sitting on the Board. This can cause progress to be greatly impeded upon should the individuals have a conflict of interest with one of the Board’s cases. Additionally, the methodology in which the council appoints citizens and the information they are provided about the current makeup of Boards and Commissions needs to be re-examined. Read more on this issue here.

Equal funding for all council districts - Ensuring that our five council districts are receiving equal funds for, roads, parks and the likes will always be a top priority.

Transportation – Reviewing and potentially enhancing our transportation system is something that needs to be frequently done. As communities grow needs change and it is important that Greensboro actively promotes public transportation. This blog post clearly states a way that I think we can increase ridership on GTA and this one highlights that I want Greensboro to strive to offer more bus stop shelters.
