My friends in Ole Asheboro are in the process of starting a community garden, which is very exciting. If you aren’t familiar with the concept allow me to explain. Basically, a community has a plot of land and it’s divided up into smaller sections and residents pay “rent” to create their very own garden. It’s a great way to promote healthy eating and also brings communities together, something I’m a big fan of.
Given that I know Ole Asheboro is starting this process I was quite excited when I received an invitation to go to Saturday’s kickoff party for Historic Aycock’s community garden. They are pretty far along in the process, but it was great to see what they had accomplished, not to mention the fact that a ton of folks are taking part. I briefly spoke with the individual heading up the process and told him that Ole Asheboro is doing the same thing. He said he would love to help (he really enjoys things of this nature) and I hope to put him in touch with the appropriate person in Ole Asheboro.

Very glad this is going on. I thought about this when you mentioned tearing down vacant houses and I hope that something like this can replace them. It also helps so much with the environment, and simply the food supply in these neighborhoods without grocery stores/corner stores with decent food.
