The Greensboro Community Watch (GCW) was founded just over four months ago and I’m happy with how the program has progressed thus far. For anyone that isn’t familiar, I created GCW to bridge the communication gap that previously existed amongst the community watches in Greensboro.

I sent out a press release this morning highlighting the growth of the program and shared that the GCW has now connected more than 100 community watches throughout Greensboro and has 141 members. Here is what one member had to say,

“It’s a vital tool; a one stop shop for all communities to forward growing crime issues in their areas,” said Dee Chen, a member of the program. “If it wasn’t for GCW I don’t think information would be getting around so quickly.  I look forward to my weekly emails from and share them with my community on a regular basis. I’m glad someone took the time to link communities together, but I’m not sure why it took this long.”

Crime and gang violence is one of the items highlighted on the Issues page of  but I wanted to let you that I’m not simply using it as a talking point. I’m thinking outside the box and trying to figure out ways we can proactive reduce crime in Greensboro and potentially get ahead of the wave.

“This is a great form of community policing,” said Tim Bellamy, Greensboro’s chief of police. “We can track down criminals all day, but the key to reducing crime is the preventative measures that can be put in place.  The concept of the Greensboro Community Watch will create awareness of what is happening all across the city and bridge gaps between young and old, rich and poor.”

If you are interested in joining the GCW or would like me to come discuss the program at your neighborhood meeting please let me know. I don’t have to mention a thing about my candidacy – the only goal would be to share information about the program with your community and reemphasize the importance of sharing information with other neighborhoods across the city.

Note: The Weekly-wrap up that was sent out last week highlighted that there seemed to be a jump in crime since the previous week, especially in the home break-in category.
