COUNCIL CANDIDATE CLEANS UP STREETS, TALKS TO DRUG DEALER & PIMP
July 13, 2009 (Greensboro, NC) – Ryan Shell, a candidate for the District 2 Greensboro City Council seat spent some time Sunday afternoon picking up trash on parts of Lee St and MLK. Shell has claimed to be a person that “gets things done,” and Sunday’s efforts continue to back up that claim. “I’m really happy with the amount of trash that was cleaned up today,” said Shell. “I’ve picked up a lot of trash around the city, but today was the first time I extended those cleanup efforts to MLK. It’s not a street that I’ve adopted, but while I was attending the Ole Asheboro community cookout on Saturday I noticed that a decent amount of trash had built in various spots and that some action was needed.”
While picking up trash Shell saw lots of smiling faces, talked to neighbors and had folks lend a helping hand along the way, but there were also moments that were clearly not so great.
“Today was very interesting,” said Shell. “I say that simply because I saw such an array of stuff. There’s a Citgo on MLK that routinely has issues with loitering and just about anyone you ask in the area will tell you it’s a problem. While walking passed the store I was approached by a guy selling drugs and prostitutes in the parking lot – and he was doing this right out in the open. I stopped and talked to him for a bit and told him that it was my intention to help clean up the neighborhood, especially the Citgo and then we went our separate ways. This experience made it very clear that parts of District 2 have been neglected for quite some time… and that stops right now.”
Shell has been an active participant in the City of Greensboro’s Adopt-A-Street program and has adopted a portion of both Lee Street and Pisgah Church, and all of Phillips Avenue.
